Tackling the tough topics on campus

As you may have noticed, this issue of The Circuit is a bit different.

This time around, we decided to tackle some tough issues.

We included controversial stories in this issue, like the politics around campus and the Christian view of homosexuality.

Even more surprising, we did not include a single story about a school choir or guest speaker.

This change may be upsetting to many but we at The Circuit felt it was time to do something new.

The job of a campus newspaper is not to tell you what to think, neither is it the duty of a paper to gloss over important issues.

Instead, our obligation as student journalists is to give you the facts. What you do with them is up to you.

While we certainly are not looking to create controversy, The Circuit is not helping anyone if we ignore contentious issues.

If we print a story, it is because we think that you, the students of BC, deserve to know specifically what happened.

Consequently, you have the ability to make life at BC a little better.

We are aware that we do not always succeed at publishing an unbiased paper.

However, that is why we are a student publication: we learn from our mistakes.

We hope you will read the stories in this issue with an open mind.

Whether you agree or disagree with the views presented, we anticipate some lively discussions on the subject matter.

Please do not be afraid to share your views on these issues.

As Aristotle said, “It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.”

Positive changes stem from thoughtful conversation.

And if you will excuse the shameless self-plug, we at The Circuit are always looking for a good letter to the editor.

Happy reading.
